Kandijkoek is a traditional Dutch sugar cake — dense, deeply sweet, made with coarse brown sugar crystals (kandij) that give it its distinctive texture and name. It is the kind of old-fashioned baked good that you find at Dutch markets and in grandmothers' kitchens, rarely anywhere else.
